Google Business Profile optimisation in Derbyshire

Get your business to the top of Google Maps and local search results. We set up, optimise, and manage your Google Business Profile so customers in your area find you first.

Why your Google Business Profile matters more than your website

For local trades, the Google Business Profile drives more direct action than the website does. More calls, more direction requests, more people clicking through to find out more, all coming from a profile most business owners have barely touched since the day it was created.

When someone searches “plumber near me” or “builder in Alfreton,” Google shows Business Profiles first, above any website results at all. A well-optimised profile with photos, reviews, and regular posts tells Google the business behind it is active, relevant, and worth trusting with someone's home or their money.

Think of the profile as a mini-website that Google controls the layout of, but you control what goes into it. For a lot of local trades, it's where the majority of new customer contact actually starts, not the homepage, not a Google ad, just the profile sitting in the map pack doing quiet work in the background.

That's a shift worth sitting with if you've spent money on a website and left the profile to sort itself out. The two aren't interchangeable, and it also explains why two businesses with similarly good workmanship often see very different volumes of enquiries. The one showing up in the map pack gets picked first, almost by default, while the other has to work far harder just to be seen at all.

What we do with your profile

The work starts with category selection: the right primary category for your trade, plus secondary categories that widen what you show up for without diluting what Google thinks you specialise in. From there we build out a full service listing with proper descriptions, rather than a bare list of one-word services that says nothing.

Your business description gets written around the local keywords people actually search with, and your service area gets configured to match where you genuinely work rather than left on a default setting. Photos go up covering the exterior, the team, and completed jobs, because profiles with real photos get chosen over ones with none far more often than most owners expect.

Weekly Google posts keep the profile moving: offers, updates, project highlights, whatever's relevant that week. Questions in the Q&A section get answered before a stranger answers them badly on your behalf, and a proper review strategy runs alongside all of it. Each of these elements sends its own signal to Google about what the business does and where. The more complete and active the profile is, the stronger those signals add up to be.

This is also where the profile and your website start reinforcing each other. If you're building or updating a site at the same time, our website design service is built to carry the same keywords and service areas through, so the two work as one system rather than two disconnected projects.

Directory and citation consistency

NAP consistency, meaning your business name, address, and phone number matching exactly across every listing, is one of the quieter trust signals Google leans on. Google cross-references business details from dozens of sources around the web, and when those details don't line up, it creates doubt about which version is actually correct. Doubt pushes rankings down, even when everything else about the profile looks strong.

It sounds like a small detail until you notice how many local businesses have three or four slightly different addresses floating around online, usually from having moved premises once and never going back to update every listing that mentioned the old one.

We check and correct listings across Google, Bing Places, Apple Maps, Yell, Thomson Local, Checkatrade, TrustATrader, FreeIndex, Bark, and the trade-specific directories that matter for your industry. It's unglamorous work, the kind that's easy to skip, but it removes one more reason for Google to hedge on ranking you with confidence.

Ongoing GBP management

A profile set up once and left alone starts losing ground fast. Competitors posting weekly, picking up fresh reviews, and adding new photos will overtake a static profile within a few months, even one that was optimised properly at the start.

Ongoing management is what keeps that from happening: weekly posts to keep the profile active, regular photo uploads, review monitoring with responses going out promptly, and a monthly report so you can see what's actually moving. It's less exciting than the initial setup, but it's the part that determines whether the ranking you worked for sticks around or quietly slips away over the following months.

Most of the businesses that lose ground online haven't done anything wrong so much as stopped doing anything at all, and that's usually all it takes. For the full pricing picture across our management plans, the local SEO management page covers both tiers in detail.
